In a year where half the world population votes, the Leading Change Academy 2024 community organizing Workshop is pivotal! With global crises escalating, leadership and moral organizing are imperative. This workshop, developed by Marshall Ganz & LCN practitioners, equips leaders to navigate complexities, fostering resilience and empathy. As the world stands at a critical juncture, this workshop empowers individuals to be catalysts for positive change amid pressing challenges.

Whether you’re a member of a civic association, union, advocacy group, social movement, Nonprofit and NGO executives or a grassroots community leader, this comprehensive Community Organizing workshop is designed for you & your team!

Information:

  • Date: April 20, 21, 27, and 28
  • Time: 10 AM to 4 PM ET
  • Place: Online on Zoom
  • Application Deadline: April 1, 2024

This workshop aims to provide a quick dive & understanding of how to build collective agency & people power to scale campaigns and institutions. You will learn the five leadership practices of:

  1. Public narrative & Storytelling: Learn to develop and share your story of Self, Us & Now. Public narrative can be a way to access the emotional resources required: mobilizing hope over fear, empathy over alienation, and self-worth over self-doubt.
  2. Building relationships: Practice building values-based one-on-one relationships! Organizers build relationships among members of a constituency to create commitment to a shared purpose.
  3. Structuring leadership teams: Learn to strategically structure your leadership team representing the community to carry out the organizing campaign. Practice launching your team by developing shared purpose, norms & team identity.
  4. Strategizing: Strategy is turning what we have into what we need in order to get what we want. Learn to analyze your community power dynamics, resources, map the actors, get tactically imaginative & create campaign charts to achieve campaign’s strategic goal.
  5. Action: Action requires mobilizing others to commit time, money, energy, and often, courage to achieve your strategy. Learn how to design action that generates the motivation for more action and practice how to ask for a commitment!

We additionally also offer a module on Coaching that enables teams to enable the agency of leaders to find resources and solutions to challenges of the head, heart and hands.

This’s intensively hands-on practice workshop! Participants are guided by a skilled Community Organizing coach in a 6:1 participant:coach ratio teams in breakout rooms during the workshop to get real-time feedback on their organizing skills. The learning is authentic because participants work with a real organizing project – one of their own, or from the organizations they work with. One testimony to the efficacy of this experience is that a number of alumni of the Organizing workshops and past participants have turned their projects from these workshops into real campaigns and organizations all across the world.

This workshop will be running on 4 full training days from 10 AM to 4 PM ET online on Zoom.
