In one of the world’s biggest election years, we ask the question: How do we make it matter?
With nearly half of the world voting in 2024, it’s more urgent than ever to come together and explore why and how organizing can create transformational change in politics. The learning series on political organizing aims to build power through modeling, identifying, developing, and growing the capacity of progressive political organizers around the world. The series will be an opportunity to reflect on some of the urgent questions around political organizing in these turbulent times, through spaces where the LCN community can collaborate, learn from each other’s work (both the wins and the losses) and practice organizing skill together.
The series consists of 5 sessions:
- Kickoff session to explore the power of organizing in politics from the experiences of a diverse panel (Friday, July 12th @ 3 – 4:30pm Eastern Time)
- Skill Practice Session: Public Narrative in political campaigns (Friday, August 16th @ 11am – 12:30pm Eastern Time)
- Skill Practice Session: Relationship Building (Deep canvassing) in political campaigns (Friday, September 6th @ 10 – 11:30am Eastern Time)
- Mobilizing Resources into Action (4Cs / motivational task design) in political campaigns (Thursday, October 3rd @ 8 – 9:30pm Eastern Time)
- A wrap up session to reflect on the lessons learned and identify a way forward (December, TBD)
Upcoming sessions
Skill Practice Session: Mobilizing Resources into Action (4Cs) in Political Campaigns
In organizing, if we are to achieve our goals and create change we must eventually take action. But mobilizing our constituency can be challenging. How do I seek a commitment? How many commitments do I need to hit my goals? What are my goals? How do I plan to hit those goals?
In the fourth session on our series examining organizing in an electoral landscape, we will discuss how we move a constituency from inaction to action, and how mobilizing resources can lead to more resources. We will also get on the bike and practice the “4C’s” – a way to seek commitment from likely volunteers to an action that is linked to your electoral strategy and enable you to hit those critical recruitment goals.
Join us on Thursday, October 3rd 8PM Eastern Time / October 4th 10AM Melbourne Time as we practice how to mobilize and deploy resources effectively in political campaigns!
Who is this series for?
This series is especially perfect for people who are:
- Working in electoral organizing or have an interest in getting involved
- Looking to address the challenges around politics in the status quo
- Eager to learn how to organize practically in campaigns
Building a group of political organizers in the LCN community
One of our core aims coming out of this series is to create a core group within the LCN community consisting of political organizers from diverse countries & contexts working together to further organizing within politics – a space where they can learn from each other’s experiences, create an ongoing body of learning, and report back what people have done in their own field/campaigns
