On March 14th, we celebrated Marshall Ganz’s birthday and his progressive activism, community organizing, and mentorship! Over 600 people from Australia, China, Jordan, Mexico, all time zones across the U.S., and so many more locations around the world came to attend the celebration.
We are deeply thankful for the generous contributions made to the Leading Change Network and we are excited to welcome new members that are joining our community!

Formerly Incarcerated Convicted People and Families Movement (“FICPFM”)
Organizer Training Fellowship
In partnership with the CZI and FICPFM, the Leading Change Network will continue developing the leadership of formerly incarcerated people through a second installment of the FICPFM Organizer Training Fellowship. The aim is to engage a new wave of formerly incarcerated leaders in 2021 to learn and practice organizing, as well as to invite 2020 alumni to facilitate sessions for the incoming cohort. LCN is excited to continue meaningfully building people power for the criminal justice reform movement with FICPFM.
International Justice Mission (“IJM”) Public Narrative Training
On March 25th and 29th, in partnership with International Justice Mission (IJM) we had a 2-day Spanish Public Narrative online workshop for 30 participants from Bolivia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Guatemala working to protect women and children from violence.
Supported by 7 LCN Coaches: Jake Waxman, Andrea Ornelas, Cecilia Barja, Dulce Anayasaenz, Ignacio Ibarzabal, Jose Marantes, and Valeria Cerda, participants created a brave space to explore the power of stories and shared values to mobilize collective power for justice.
Organizing for Health Series
We launched our first People-Powered Health event from the Organizing for Health series. This session sparked great conversations and reflections around the power of grassroots organizing to achieve health justice.
A special shoutout to Pedja Stojicic from People Power Health for leading the session, Jon Shaffer, Ali Greenberg, and Akshita Siddula from Right to Health Action (US), Stephanie Aines from Right Care Alliance (US), and Sreejani Malakar from Health Over Stigma campaign by Haiyya (India) for sharing their experiences and learnings as panelists.

Orientation to Organizing
Wednesday April 14th | 9 AM-12 PM Eastern Time
Today is the last day to register for our Orientation to Organizing, an introductory session on the Community Organizing and Public Narrative framework developed by Marshall Ganz and his associates!
The session will cover an introductory understanding of the six practices of the community organizing framework, an introduction to the Leading Change Network and its programs, and an opportunity to practice coaching with other organizers from around the world. This session is a fantastic gateway for those looking for effective ways to create change in your community, or wanting to update and refresh their organizing knowledge.
Mais Irqsusi, LCN’s Executive Director will be leading the session and sharing glimpses of her 10+ years of global organizing experience.

The session is 10 USD for non-members (scholarships available on request), and free for LCN members. If you are not a LCN member, attending this session teaches you the basics of the framework and will make you eligible to join LCN as a member.

What’s the difference between a movement that wins victories for its constituents and one that fails? What are the factors that make collective action powerful?
We will be joined by Elizabeth McKenna, to talk about her upcoming book Prisms of the People: Power & Organizing in Twenty-First-Century America to explore answers to these questions.
Elizabeth McKenna is a postdoctoral scholar at the SNF Agora Institute and P3 Lab. She received her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley, and uses multiple methods (ethnographic, interview, spatial, and network analysis) to study how right and left-wing movements build political power.
Come and learn how organizations built a committed and flexible constituency base, and translated their capacity into effective political power!
