All over the world LCN’s network of trainers are working with organizations to support them to develop leadership that organizes communities and builds power for change.

One of those is Mothers Out Front in the United States.

They’re on a mission to build a diverse grassroots movement of mothers, grandmothers and other caregivers to make climate change an issue that our leaders can no longer ignore.

Building a national movement requires ongoing learning, practice and adaptation and that’s something Mothers Out Front is committed to getting right.

They’ve grown significantly in recent years, now organizing in 5 states across the United States. Growing fast presents social movements with unique challenges. Like how to support and develop the leadership of new recruits to the movement, and how to do that in a way that sustains engagement and supports scaling up in a unified way.

To respond proactively to this challenge, Mothers Out Front teamed up with the Leading Change Network in January to facilitate a 2.5 day training in Bannings, Georgia.

The training brought over 20 of their organizers together to develop a shared language and approach, build leadership capacity, and deepen relationships nation-wide.

LCN’s training team was led by Abel R. Cano & Uyen Doan, supported by coaches Nneka Akubeze & Conrado Santos.

Sharing highlights from the event, LCN Trainer Abel Cano said participants felt reinvigorated and reenergized by the process, emerging with a clear strategy for how to deepen organizing efforts in their regions.

“The group explored how to consistently maintain a growth mindset through the organizing journey. We were able to share stories of growth mindset which helped them approach things with more openness and a willingness to experiment.

The training proved the importance and value of supporting growth with intentional leadership training.”

We’re grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such an inspiring team at Mothers Out Front as they build their capacity to organize for climate justice across the United States.
