Learning Series on Organizing for Liberation

The ongoing crisis in Gaza has laid bare the stark realities of the occupation and the unwavering resilience of the Palestinian people. This series is born from a deep-rooted belief in the power of solidarity and the necessity of understanding the Palestinian struggle as a resistance against colonialism and apartheid.

We are often confronted with the overwhelming weight of injustice, the vastness of colonial systems, and the relentless brutality of the oppressors. It can be easy to view Palestinians, and other victims of oppression, primarily as victims, overlooking their agency and strength.

This series seeks to challenge this narrative. We will delve into the inspiring stories of resistance, exploring how individuals and communities have found hope and power amidst adversity. By examining past liberation struggles and analyzing current Palestinian organizing efforts, we aim to build a space for collective learning, reflection, and action.

Through shared experiences, knowledge-sharing, and uplifting the voices of those fighting for liberation in Palestine and beyond, we hope to foster a sense of solidarity and inspire tangible steps towards a just and liberated Palestine and world.

Join us as we embark on this journey of hope, learning, and resistance.

The series consists of the following spaces:

  • Session on hope & solidarity in the global student movements for Palestine (Monday, August 12th 2024 @ 12 – 1:30pm Eastern Time)
  • Session on lessons in liberation from South Africa, Turtle Island, and Palestine (Tuesday, November 12th 2024 @ 9 – 10:45am US Eastern Time / 4 – 5:45pm Gaza Time)
  • Session on power and resistance: stories of organizing in Palestine (scheduled for Wednesday, February 12th 2025 @ 10 – 11:30am US Eastern Time / 5 – 6:30pm Gaza Time)
  • Liberation Organizing Action Learning Circle, a close-knit virtual space to continue learning and sharing reflections together, and putting our learning into actions in our fight for liberation that will meet monthly for four sessions (August 27th, September 24th, October 22nd, November 19th)

Who is this series for?

This series is open to anyone who is engaged in or interested in organizing and campaigning for liberation and against colonialism, including:

  • Organizers who are/want to take concrete action for Palestinian liberation in their community
  • Organizers who are involved in or interested in liberation/anti-colonial movements and campaigns in their own countries
  • People who want to learn more about how organizing can build and shift power in movements for liberation

Action Learning Circle

The Liberation Organizing Action Learning Circle is a key pillar of our series, as a close-knit virtual space for us to continue learning from each other, reflecting on our learning together, and putting our learning into actions in solidarity with Palestine.

We are planning four sessions of this Action Learning Circle (90 minutes per session):

  • ALC session 1 (Tuesday, August 27th)heart – What experiences and personal relations do we have with liberation struggles and movements? – sharing stories of self
  • ALC session 2 (Tuesday, September 24th)head – What can we learn from theories of change from past liberation movements? – learning strategies
  • ALC session 3 (Tuesday, October 22nd)head – What might be our theory of change for the role we can play in the ongoing Palestinian liberation movement? – brainstorming strategies
  • ALC session 4 (Tuesday, November 19th)hand – How do we decolonize our relationships and actions on a daily basis? – discussing actions

*The tentative time for session 1 is 8:00-9:30 am ET, and it will be finalized based on the number of interested people and their time zones (We may have multiple ALC groups at different times).

By connecting with others who want to engage in deeper conversations around liberation struggles, we can overcome feelings of isolation and build hope and power for the future of liberation movements worldwide. We are aiming for the ALC sessions to be co-facilitated by the participants, to give us all the opportunity to learn from and with each other.
