Hope & Solidarity in Global Student Movements for Palestine (Learning Series on Organizing for Liberation)

Hope & Solidarity in Global Student Movements for Palestine (Learning Series on Organizing for Liberation)

This session is part of an ongoing learning space on liberation movements that centers Palestinian stories, lived experiences, and resistance.

Students across universities, especially in the US, have used multiple tactics to draw attention to Israel’s war on Gaza, including rallies, sit-ins, fasts, and most recently the escalation to campus encampments. The encampments have been unified in their power and clear in their demands to university administrations to ‘disclose and divest’, and have continued to center Palestine in their narrative.

The movement across campuses gives us a unique lens to look at the current moment: the global solidarity with Palestine; the shifting narrative and power within the Global North; the use of state sanctioned violence and suppression; and the power of building community and hope to push for change.

We invite you to a conversation with student organizers from the US, France and Canada, to hear directly from the students and teams that are organizing across campuses, and learn from their successes and challenges.

The session will be conducted as a panel discussion, with space for Q&A and time for reflection. Through the discussion we will be uplifting stories from the different student encampments and organizing efforts—stories of hope, resilience, and community building that have kept the momentum going.

We will explore both why and how the student movements have become a symbol and means of resistance and building power against oppression in Palestine and on campuses.

This event is open to everyone.

Questions & answers

This session is for student organizers involved in organizing for Palestine and people who want to learn about the student movement, including people who are/want to take concrete action for Palestinian liberation in their communities, and organizers who are engaged in movements for liberation and against colonialism in their own countries and communities,

The session will be conducted as a presentation by the student speakers followed by a moderated panel discussion, with space for Q&A and time for reflection. Through the discussion we will be uplifting stories from the different student encampments and organizing efforts—stories of hope, resilience, and community building that have kept the momentum going.

The learning series on Organizing for Liberation explore questions of how we can organizing for liberation and against colonialism, centering the Palestinian struggle against colonialism and apartheid in a broader conversation around movements in the Global South and stories of agency of communities under oppression. It aims to foster hope by showcasing the agency and power of those resisting occupation and learning from past anti-colonial struggles.

This session will not be recorded, so we encourage you to join the session live to take part of the learning fully. We are however planning to generate a summary of the key learning points on our resource center later.
